From the Island of Berkeley

ONLY AVAILABLE AT CONCERTS!

Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winning slack key artist, Patrick Landeza, has announced the launch of his new book, “From The Island Of Berkeley, Memoirs From A California-Born Hawaiian.” The multi-city book and music tour kicked off on April 21st in Oakland and is scheduled to tour through various Northern California cities. Luckily for Hawaii, the unique evening of songs and stories is scheduled at Hawaii Public Radio’s Atherton Studios on May 19th, in time to celebrate Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month.

Says Landeza, “I’m not a writer, I’m a storyteller. But with the encouragement from my ohana and my mentors, I sat down and penned the memories of the extraordinary journey I’ve been on.” He continued, “My hope is that the book will inspire young and old to never give up on their dreams and to persevere during what may seem as challenging times.” In the book, Landeza shares a peek of what it was like to learn the art of slack key guitar from the greats including Raymond Kāne, Dennis Kamakahi, Cyril Pahinui, and George Kuo. Landeza added, “During this process I learned slack key (and life lessons), but most important, I also connected to my cultural roots reinforcing who I was not only as a Hawaiian, but as an artist and musician.” Landeza’s From The Island of Berkeley, Memoirs From A California-Born Hawaiian” is an entertaining and moving insight to one of today’s leading Hawaiian slack key guitarists who just happened to be born on the other side of the Pacific.

In addition to reading select passages from his new book, “From The Island Of Berkeley,” Patrick will also entertain the crowd by performing Hawaiian slack key melodies from his various albums, including tunes from his latest CD, “Ho’omana’o,” which is also nominated for a Nā Hōkū Hanohano award this year.

Currently, a soft cover version of “From The Island Of Berkeley, Memoirs From A California-Born Hawaiian,” will be available for sale only at the shows listed on tour.
